EuroMillions changes the rules of the game? Yes! Starting this September! Why? To bring bigger jackpots more often and make more millionaires in many different ways. If you are a fan of the European lottery, you might want to know what’s a stake for you. First of all, a SuperDraw: to celebrate the announced EuroMillions changes, the European lottery organizes a special event on September 23, 2016! The guaranteed jackpot is €130 million!
Bigger EuroMillions Jackpots
If now EuroMillions has a starting jackpot of €15 million, the European lottery officials decided to give it a €2 million boost starting September 27, 2016. So, every time the numbers on a player’s ticket match the winning numbers of the draw, the EuroMillions jackpot will be reset to a mouth-watering €17 million, from where it can grow with each rollover until it reaches the €190 million cap.
The jackpot cap will remain unchanged, but the rules are slightly different here as well: instead of keeping the jackpot at the cap amount for only one draw, the EuroMillions top prize will display the €190 million value for 4 consecutive draws. If it is not won during one of these draws, it will roll down and be shared by 2nd prize winners. In the rare case that there will be no 2nd prize winners either, it will roll down to the 3rd prize or even further down to the next tier for which there are winning tickets.
EuroMillions Changes Game Matrix
The main EuroMillions game matrix will remain the same and you will continue to pick 5 lucky numbers out of 50, but Lucky Stars pool will be enlarged, containing not 11, but 12 numbers starting September.
Odds of Winning
You might be wondering how this affects your odds of winning the top prize or any EuroMillions prize, for that matter. If we look at the averages, everything stays the same: each EuroMillions line will stand an average change of 1 in 13. However, the breakdown looks a little different. With more Lucky Stars to choose from, the odds of hitting the jackpot are less good. If now you stand 1 in 116,531,800 chances of cashing in top prize, starting September 27, 2016, your chances will be of 1 in 139,838,160. This will create the premises for more rollovers and bigger jackpots, which is definitely a valid reason to continue to play the most popular Euro lotto!
